Our first race with the Potomac River Sailboat Association was light with shifting winds when there were any.We joined the Catamarans, which gave us a spanking. But there was reason to celebrate: Race one saw us first across the start line, exactly in the the right position. Race two we were calmed and overtaken by the lightnings, but we managed to catch their wind and pinged a few of them going around the mark.
This was Karen’s first ever sailboat race and she was very handy…managing two spinnaker hoists, untangling the jib when it would not blow over, and generally pointing out the beauty of the river.
Speaking of…the bald eagle nesting at channel marker 11 is getting brave…s
taying in the nest when we ghosted by. Up close, these birds are beautiful. Karen is sure they have an egg in the nest. I sure hope we are going to see some chicks. Last year, there were osprey chicks in the channel marker.
