The 2017 spring race series got off to a bang Sunday, April 2 with the Potomac River Inland 20 fleet handling race committee.
Scow dudes Tim Dickson Stew Harris, Rick Loheed and Jack Sheehan planted pins and launched the boats all day long in a NW breeze that start briskly around 7 knots but fizzled by the third race. Continue reading Race Committee is Fun!
The Inland 20 bilge boards are beasts. They drop 3.5 feet below the hull and have a total height, including horn, of about 5-foot-8.
Getting them out of the slot is easy if you know this trick.
This beauty is a proven competitor with multiple outings including a strong showing at the 2017 Cherry Blossom. Known as “Firewater,” when she sailed in Lake James, Indiana, this boat had two owners and both were meticulous. At only 579lbs. (class weight is 595), Firewater is a nimble competitor. Jack Sheehan completed conversion of his 1987 Johnson on Feb. 5 with the installation of an aluminum sprit, hood cover and bulkhead. The boat will be named “Scooty Puff,” a nod to the animation cult classic Futurama.
